Job Summary

Develops and directs programs, including assessments and student development for the MMC and BBC communities. Responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations as it relates to campus recreation and mentoring full-time professional staff. The Associate Director is a member of the department's senior leadership team and works collaboratively with the Senior Director.

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the campus recreation which includes, direct supervision of at least three full-time professional staff, including the Assistant Director of Sport Programs, Assistant Director of Fitness & Wellbeing, and Marketing Account Manager. In addition, the Associate Director will indirectly supervise and lead at least six full-time program professionals for aquatics, outdoor adventure, racquet sports (racquetball, pickleball, and tennis), sport programs (intramurals and sport clubs), and more than 200 student employees.
  • Serves as a liaison leading assigned work teams and committees within Campus Recreation and the Division of Academic & Student Affairs departments.
  • Serves as Director in the Senior Director's absence, as necessary.
  • Develops and recommends policies and operating procedures related to campus recreation areas.
  • Develops and implements a comprehensive student development and learning program for student staff and recreational participants.
  • Assists with designing and implementing assessment initiatives that evaluate and enhance student learning, retention, engagement, and success.
  • Develops, launches, and evaluates the department's short- and long-range strategic plans.
  • Contributes development of area budget and provides recommendations to the Senior Director regarding assigned budgetary needs, financial expenditures, short- and long-term capital planning, and revenue generation initiatives.
  • Cultivates internal and external strategic partnerships aligned with the Department's mission, vision, and values.
  • Oversees the development and marketing for campus recreation programs, facilities and services.
  • Works collaboratively with the Senior Director and Associate Director of Facilities & Operations to achieve the goals and objectives for Campus Recreation.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and six (6) years of experience in a management role of related field; OR Master's degree and four (4) years of experience in a management role of related field. CPR/Standard First Aid Certification or must obtain certification within 45 days of employment.

Desired Qualifications

  • Proven experience in collegiate recreation unit areas and managing full-time and student staff.
  • Experience in budget development, student development and assessment.
  • Ability to work independently on complex assignments while reviewing progress and updating the Senior Director as appropriate.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of recreation software.
