As an Engineering Technical Specialist, you will:

A week in the life of an Engineering Technical Specialist:



  • Provide operations Support for submarine Ship Control Systems (SCS) Support Services (SCSSS)
  • Perform quality reviews of all deliverable products.
  • Support Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) programs conducted by American Systems on submarine SCS systems.
  • Support NSWCCD Fly-By-Wire (FBW) program requirements, including functional audit support.
  • Coordinate with NSWCCD and SCS developers Electric Boat Corp. and Lockheed Martin Corp. to facilitate documentation reviews; perform Program Trouble Report (PTR) tracking, review, and resolution; review PTR implementations; and problem solve.
  • Maintain tracking of all products produced under SCSSS contract, and provide periodic updates to NSWCCD. Interact with NSWCCD IV&V Leads to facilitate scheduling, problem resolution, document review coordination between activities, and status of IV&V products.
  • Perform requirements traceability (system, software, and hardware) analyses supporting IV&V. Prepare NSWCCD IV&V Monthly Reports and Contracting Officer's Monthly Report.
  • Interact with engineering staff to coordinate task assignments, consolidate inputs, and prepare final products for delivery to customer. Perform and support Functional Configuration Audits (FCA).
  • Maintain the NSWCCD ISEA FBW website, hosted by American Systems, and perform as the NSWCCD FBW Training Coordinator and Document Custodian.
  • Provide direct support to SCSSS Program Manager as directed.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to Obtain aSecret Clearance
  • US Citizenship
  • High School Diploma and 8+ years of experience OR Bachelors Degree and 2+ years of experience
  • Periodic local travel will be required (e.g., Subbase New London, Electric Boat).


At least 2+ years of experience in:



  • Microsoft products Word and Excel, and Acrobat Adobe.
  • Technical writing in a Navy DOD environment.
  • Ability to multi-task with complex documents and projects.
  • Ability to create large documents containing text, graphics, data, etc.

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is$75,000-100,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
