The University of Virginia, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, is seeking applicants for Research Associate position to work in the lab of Professor Joe Campbell. At present the research in this group is focused on two areas related to photodetectors. The first is using new materials and novel structures to minimize the excess noise of avalanche photodiodes. The second research area focuses on photodetectors for microwave photonics. The emphasis is high speed, high responsivity, and high saturation current. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: A Ph.D. in electrical engineering, physics, or other field related to optoelectronic device technology is required by the start date. Experience with optoelectronic devices is required. The candidate should also be familiar with semiconductor device physics, solid-state physics, and introductory quantum mechanics. Experience with design, fabrication, and characterization of optoelectronic devices, with preference for experience with photodetectors, is desired. Preferred candidates should also have familiarity with the operation and maintenance of equipment for photodiode characterization including current-voltage, capacitance-voltage, quantum efficiency versus wavelength, avalanche gain, and multiplication noise. APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Apply online athttps://uva.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/UVAJobs and attach a cover letter, CV/resume, and contact information for three references (name, email address, telephone number, and address). Please note that multiple documents can be uploaded in the box. APPLICATION DEADLINE: Review of applications will begin on August 31, 2024, but the position will remain open until filled. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment. This is a one-year appointment; however, the appointment may be renewed for an additional two, one-year increments, contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance. For questions regarding this position, contact Joe Campbell, Professor, at jcc7s@virginia.edu. For questions regarding the application process, contact Rich Haverstrom, Academic Recruiter, at rkh6j@virginia.edu.
