Job Summary:

The Sr Capability Owner, Patents supports projects and capabilities surrounding the acquisition, ingestion, and preparation of patent information for inclusion in the CAS databases. This role is responsible for strategies and tactical execution of initiatives and projects providing results to the business. Key responsibilities include: 1) Lead efforts to ensure coverage continuity and potential expansions of patent office and intellectual property content for inclusion in CAS databases, products, and services 2) Collaborate and serve as the Subject Matter Expert on patents and patent processes associated with a large scale business transformation 3) Guide the development and maintenance of patent processes, ensuring delivery of targeted results on time, on budget, and within scope.

Job Accountabilities:



  • Strategic Roadmap - Develops strategy to drive execution of patent projects and capabilities including both enhancement and maintenance projects. Internalizes overall acquisition and delivery strategy such that it informs requirements and feature/functionality prioritization.
  • Patent Content Roadmap - Understands organizational priorities surrounding patents and patent workflows. Develops end to end view of processes, capabilities, and contributes to future state roadmaps that align to strategic goals.
  • Content Delivery Roadmap - In collaboration with Acquisition and Preparation Management, develops patent delivery workplans and identifies project needs. Prioritizes and sequences delivery against the roadmap to support the content flow through to product and realization of business value.
  • Strategic Collaboration - Collaborates proactively across multiple functions including Content Operations, Technology, Strategic Initiatives Office (SIO), Data Analytics & Insights (DAI), Product Management, Human Resources, IP Services, and Organizational Change Management (OCM),
  • System and Process Requirements - Ensures documentation of clear and measurable system requirements, prioritizes development tasks by data-driven decisions, and understands practical trade-offs between implementation and functionality. Leads creation of detailed system specifications using written requirements, business rules, process flows and use cases; incorporates user experience, organizational change management, and technology teams' deliverables such as prototypes, wireframes, training guides and design and development documents.
  • Project Management - Execute project and operational initiatives by working collaboratively with cross-functional teams/internal divisions to build, release, and monitor CAS Content Operations production systems and processes. Collaborate with agile development teams, and manage day-to-day details to influence and inform the strategy and roadmap evolution. Ensure day-to-day decisions are effectively made and execution is optimized to drive toward the realization of these capabilities. Confirm the delivery of features and functionality as agreed.
  • Models collaborative leadership and ensures alignment across diverse stakeholders. Establishes and safeguards partnership and alignment across various groups and Divisions in support of normal operations, strategic initiatives, and projects. Works across Content Operations Division with optimized and aligned processes, practices, policies, tools, technologies, and culture. Effectively lead projects and drive successful outcomes. Inspire performance of others through effective collaboration.
  • Champions cultural and other changes that enable transformation, using best practices and in tandem with CO leadership and Human Resources. Builds transformation capability across the Content Operations organization. Embeds skills, changes mindsets, and builds culture to continuously improve and innovate.
  • Establishes and sustains customer experience top-of-mind for leadership and transformation teams, balancing transformation needs with operations needs in ways that positively affect customers and our CAS brand.
  • Communication/Risk Mitigation/ Problem Solving - Communicate business work plan and outcomes to the stakeholders and vice versa to the team. Improve self on decision making, risk capture, mitigation and escalation. Communicate task/decision status and risks appropriately to the CM. Think outside of the box, propose solutions while embracing difference in opinions leading effective progress. Provide insights, negotiate as necessary, prioritize and scope work into increments. Effectively communicate while leveraging active listening skills to identify, document and articulate business/stakeholder requirements. Bear a continuous improvement mindset and proactively invite and use feedback from others.


Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Science or Technology, or Master's in Business Administration (MBA)
  • 8 or more years' experience in patent or information management industry or other related background.
  • 1-3 years of experience in business analysis, product ownership, requirements analysis, management or other related roles, preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of 1) Project management methodologies 2) Data formats, structure, and delivery mechanisms 3) Information solutions or information product development 4) Patent-related workflows, solutions, or information/intellectual property.
  • Communication - Strong communication, organizational savvy, and interpersonal skills to drive alignment. Can create compelling communication materials to support the logic behind recommendations and decisions. Communicates with colleagues in concise, compelling, empathetic and persuasive manner
  • Leadership -Able to effectively lead projects and drive successful outcomes. Experience leading cross-functional initiatives. Effectively uses influence to lead projects, able to influence others through effective collaboration.
  • Proven ability to lead projects and work across the organization.
  • Drives Innovation and Continuous improvement: Focuses on areas of highest potential. Ensures that the innovation and improvement pipeline aligns to strategy and goals.
  • Understands Business Drivers, Context and Key Issues - Has a good working and background understanding of business drivers and key issues, sees actions in organizational context. Able to answer, "So What? What's Next?" questions to deeply understand complex issues and define strategic options.
  • Agile Development - Strongly preferred, but not required: Able to collaborate across teams to manage development of moderately complex projects. Uses effective communication and active listening skills to identify and articulate requirements, able to leverage subject matter expertise across teams to deliver timely results. Seeks support and escalates as needed.
