Work Schedule Sunday 11:00pm - Friday 7:30am (Shift 11pm-7:30am)

General Responsibilities
Environmental Services Supervisor supervises Environmental Services Technicians in performing custodial care to provide an environment conducive to teaching, learning and working. Primary responsibilities are leading and supervising environmental services technicians in their work in the college buildings. This includes communicating with college staff, faculty and administrators who work or teach in the area assigned; assisting the Environmental Service Technicians in planning the work; obtaining the Environmental Service requests for work orders for repairs needed in the area to keep it in excellent condition. The Supervisors, Utility Technicians and Floor Care Technicians will fill for each department in absence of any Environmental Services Technician.
Work Performed
* Leads, assists and supervises technicians in planning and carrying out an effective custodial program for the college.
* Maintain recycling daily log weights and measurements.
* Supervises the planning of the daily work schedule.

The following duties may require you to perform:
* Keep accurate and up to date employee records including payroll.
* Effectively manage employees to ensure routine work is up to standards.
* Perform training sessions to ensure proper cleaning techniques are being implemented.
* Inspect all areas daily and correct any issues that may be found.
* Attend all mandatory supervisory related trainings, as well as some that are not required.
* Keep a line of communication between all shifts.
* Order supplies and issue them in a cost effective way.
* Communicate with all contact individuals for all areas on the supervisor's shift.
* Schedule vacation and personal day request where it does not interfere with daily operations.
* Report any unsafe equipment to proper department.
* Create, generate and distribute work orders to proper personnel.
* Document and maintain all pertinent information.
* Troubleshoot and follow-up any complaints.
* Work together as a team with any shift if necessary.
* Always conduct oneself in a professional manner at all time and to present a positive image for oneself and HCC.
* Perform all duties to provide a clean, safe and healthy environment for students, staff, and visitors of HCC.
* Attend any sustainability training, seminars and conferences.
* Obtain LEED Green Associate Certification
* Maintain recycling program daily log weights and measurements
* Do Weekly Scans with the Inspect and Track Preventive Maintenance System
* Make sure all buildings are being cleaned according to LEED standards
* Must be able to train staff in green cleaning techniques
* Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Education Required High School or equivalent
Minimum Number of Years Experience Required 1
Other Knowledge Required
* High School Diploma or equivalent.
* One year of Environmental Services (housekeeping) experience required.
* Three years institutional or commercial housekeeping experience preferred.
* One year of supervisory experience preferred.
* Experience with a college or university preferred.
* Knowledge of some green cleaning practices.
* Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and their use.
* The ability to conduct training in custodial work.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
* Must maintain strict confidentiality regarding personnel matters as well as issues pertaining to environmental services and plant operations.
* Regular attendance is a requirement of this job.
* The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
* The ability to get along well with various groups at all levels including other support personnel, administrators, students, and faculty and college visitors.
* Performs all duties while considering the impact of any actions on the college's sustainability initiatives in the areas of environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic prosperity.
Working Conditions
* Many facets of the job require heavy physical work including the lifting of objects of up to sixty pounds in weight and the moving of ladders and other equipment. Ability to lift 50 lbs. 12 inches off the ground and place on a flatbed cart, lift 30 lbs. from floor to overhead, and lift 40 lbs. and walk 10 feet.
* Knowledge of the use of protective clothing and safety equipment such as goggles, gloves, aprons, boots and earplugs is also necessary.
* Exposure to noise and other adverse environmental conditions including cleaning equipment noise, exposure to weather in moving from one building to another in inclement weather, exposure to dust and dirt, exposure to cleaning chemicals.

As a participating member of the Maryland Retirement and Pension System, HCC offers two retirement options: The Pension, which requires a 7% employee contribution and The ORP, a 403(b) with a 7.25% employer contribution only. Employees in positions that do not require a bachelor's degree must participate in The Pension. Employees that possess a bachelor's degree and hold professional positions that require a bachelor's degree may choose to participate in either The Pension or The ORP.
