Summary: Responsible for the set up and supporting the bar code machine operation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This position reports directly to the Bar Code Supervisor and will receive direction from the Bar Code Manager or Acting Supervisor in the absence of or in conjunction with the Bar Code Supervisor.

The primary responsibility of the Bar Code Set-Up is to safely and efficiently perform top-quality operational duties daily which include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Adjusting guide rails to the size of fitting running, adjusting of applicator head to the fitting running.
  • Installing labels on the machine properly, setting machine counters, setting label sensitivity dials, setting label sensors in correct position.
  • Setting of box holder under parts diverter.
  • Assure proper palletizing.
  • Changeover machines for the next fitting on the schedule.
  • Able to plan production workload from schedule.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Qualifications: Must be knowledgeable of the functions of the barcode department.

Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend sufficient English to follow work instructions. Able to learn basic computer entry functions.

Mathematical Skills: Basic mathematical skills and counting ability required.

Reasoning Ability: Must be able to pay close attention to detail, have general deductive reasoning skills to troubleshoot minor issues and knowledge of how and when to escalate. Must be able to work without close supervision.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: PIT equipment license

Must be able to do some minor mechanical repairs, be able to lift up to 30 pounds on occasion, and be able to be on feet for 8 hours.

Exposed to heat, cold, noise, dust, oil/grease and traveling powered industrial vehicles.

Training Requirements:

  • General Job Duties: Knowledgeable of how-to set-up and support the various production lines in the Bar Code department, including ink jet printers, robot arms, conveyors, and photo eyes
  • Line Operation: Responsible for keeping Bar Code lines running and following the production schedule to run the machines required to meet the plan.
  • Quality Control & Auditing: Employees are trained in defective parts and how to verify counts, part numbers, barcode readability, etc.
