The teacher provides oversight and coordination between all child/adolescent inpatient units related to treatment planning, curriculum development, classroom and assignment activities and community marketing outreach for the organization and populations served. The teacher is also responsible for providing direct supervision to assigned education specialists.

This position is to help support our child / adolescent patients in our Residential programs on campus. With flexible commitment to help cover PTO, leaves of absence, etc will help support the team as a whole.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Assess the population trends and design education programs tailored to population needs

  • Review and interpret education testing and assessment results on patient's academic strengths, weaknesses, age-specific and special needs.
  • Use skills to collect additional information necessary to provide patient care.
  • Provide for treatment planning appropriate to the age of the patient population served.
  • Select educational materials designed to meet the age-specific educational needs of students.
  • Recommend ongoing programmatic changes based upon patients' identified needs.
  • Implement and enforce effective behavior management techniques for the classroom setting.
  • Develop and deliver supplemental educational services as self-identified through assessments.
  • Identify necessary revisions to assessment tools and processes. Initiate needed process to implement revisions. Communicate this information with staff as needed.
  • Conduct classes for patients as needed.
  • Communicate with hospital staff, educational consultants, referral contacts, schools and families about the educational program.
  • Oversee the provision of current and necessary information to coordinate the return to the school setting. Update forms and tools for sharing information to schools.
  • Maintain contact with other RMH interdisciplinary team members throughout each patient's hospitalization to support co-workers and the patient.
  • Stay current and up to date on federal and state laws pertaining to special education.
  • Use problem-solving skills and abilities to work cooperatively with other staff members.
  • Comply with the hospital's employee health and safety policies.
  • Attend all required inservice programs as scheduled.
  • Perform duties as assigned by the respective Medical Director, Clinical Services manager and current needs of the hospital.
  • Assist in promoting a team atmosphere by treating individuals with respect and honesty and by using direct communication and active listening skills.
  • Be open to change and actively support change.
  • Be open to others' ideas and points of view.
  • Promote department goals as well as the mission of the hospital.

  • Educate new staff regarding regulations or requirements of those functions that relate to their areas or departments, as directed.
  • Demonstrate acceptance and training of student interns in the department, as directed.
  • Demonstrate understanding of Joint Commission and other regulatory agency compliance regulations.
  • Involve self in the learning and application of standards relevant to the department.
  • Participate in inservices, seminars and other meetings to increase involvement and awareness of regulations.
  • Involve self in the education of other disciplines regarding Education Therapy Services regulations. Keep inpatient, residential and PHP up to date on current education federal and state laws.
  • Participate in hospital committees, performance improvement team meetings, and team projects, as directed.
  • Demonstrate punctuality and preparedness.

  • Attend department meetings as needed, actively participate in discussions, recognize and contribute to activities leading to improvement.

Participate in the performance improvement program

  • Gain understanding of the performance improvement process.
  • Apply the performance improvement model to your department's activities.
  • Participate and/or create performance improvement teams that lead to improvement in other hospital areas.
  • Educate and involve self in the hospital and department's performance improvement plans. Work with units to update schedules, parent packets, and expectations for classroom school times.

Conduct self in a professional manner

  • Demonstrate organizational skills that promote timely response to all inquiries and to task completion.
  • Communicate with all individuals in a positive and professional manner.
  • Attempt to resolve individual issues with peers in a positive, calm manner, with a focus on solution. Utilize the unit managers to help resolve issues and problem solve.
  • Communicate concerns and provide solutions for same.
  • Attend outside seminars and/or educational classes to promote professional growth. The teacher is expected to use marketing techniques and strategies to build relationships with current and future referral resources for RM o The teacher will attend one (1) seminar a year related to education or mental health. The teacher is also available to attend RMH and community workshops, support groups and seminars for those seeking professional services for mental health care. The teacher will discuss with the clinical manager to make arrangements to attend these events as able to do so.
  • Demonstrate a positive and professional attitude toward parties outside the hospital (provider relations representatives, managed care contractors, visitors, vendors, etc.).
  • Comply with the hospital's policies and procedures, including human resources, infection control, and employee health policies and programs.
  • Project a professional image by wearing appropriate, professional attire.

Additional Job Description:

Education/Training Requirements:

  • Current State of Wisconsin teaching license and certification, with one (1) years' experience working with children or adolescents who have exceptional educational needs or mental health issues.
  • Knowledge of behavioral symptoms, DSM-V, strategies and techniques to conduct groups and 1:1 situations with patients.
  • Knowledge of the most current teaching methods, standards, and current trends in education and mental health.
  • RMH current certification for proper care of patients with behavioral issues. Annual recertification is required.
  • Current American Heart Association CPR certification or American Red Cross Professional Rescue is required at the time of hire. Ongoing recertification is required.
  • Ongoing continuing education requirements per RMH annual competencies.
