Job Description Summary:
The Department of Prevention and Community Health in the Milken Institute School of Public Health at George Washington University is recruiting a Biostatistician I, to play a key role on research related to health equity. We are seeking a Biostatistician with strong technical expertise in database management systems, data analysis tools, and big data technologies.

This position will work within Dr. Derek Dangerfield's Prevention Research and Innovations in Sexual Epidemiology ( PRIISE) lab and be critical in executing several research studies in various phases of development. This lab focuses on HIV/ STI prevention with particular emphasis on populations disproportionately affected by health disparities.

The research focuses on a broad range of socio-ecological influences, such as individual, interpersonal, and community-level, policy, addresses sexual health equity for racial and sexual minority groups, and includes a broad range of methodological approaches, including longitudinal studies, secondary analysis, and advanced multivariate statistics.
Core Responsibilities Include:

  • Conduct data visualization tasks.
  • Perform inferential statistics, cross-sectional, and longitudinal analysis.
  • Consult and advise on basic and advanced statistical analysis; assist in writing up results for presentations and publications.
  • Contribute to the analysis and presentation of project data.
  • Prepare tables, statistical procedures, and data visualizations for research studies.
  • Manage databases, oversee projects, and work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Present statistical findings to non-expert audiences, including writing technical reports or research papers.
  • Write statistical computer programs and review computer output.


Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a MS or MPH in Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology or in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in statistical software such as SAS, R, or Mplus, alongside familiarity with other tools like SPSS or STATA, is preferred.
  • A good understanding of inferential statistics, Frequentist and Bayesian Methods, and cross-sectional and longitudinal analysis is desired.
  • Familiarity with RedCap data management tools is preferred.
  • Experience or training in data visualization is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with data governance, compliance, and privacy regulations is desired.

Hiring Range $52,385.57 - $83,863.89
