Sterile Processing Dept Instrument Mgmt Coord

Summary:

The Sterile processing Instrument Management Supervisor reports to the Manager of Sterile processing. Directs the overall activities of the instrument tracking system and provides dedicated comprehensive technical support and consistent software reporting and analytics to SPD Management. Takes lead in implementing and maintaining the instrument tracking system. Acts as a liaison between the instrument tracking system provider staff facility information systems and contracted software vendor. This position is also responsible for the proper inventory procurement repair replacement of all instrumentation for all sterile processing areas.

Responsibilities:

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Manages new employee profiles and manages access for staff in the system.

2.Works collaboratively with multiple groups across all sites and serves as a point of contact related to the instrument and scope system management.

3.Plan and manage the implementation of new instrumentation in accordance with SPD management and regulatory standards including the State Department of Health Joint Commission and Center for Medicare Services.

4.Develops/enhances processes and electronic tools used to analyze trends identify opportunities for further improvement and monitors results of continuous improvement activities related to SPD activities.

5.Provide information that will assist leadership in monitoring processes and ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures related to instrument and scope reprocessing.

6.Works in collaboration with the SPD Educator to create competencies educational opportunities and quality metrics and audits within the system.

7.Works collaboratively with education colleagues and assist with orientation and training of sterile processing employees and operating room staff related to the instrument tracking system.

8.Provides reports and data to support fiscal management quality assurance utilization trends and supporting the delivery of safe patient care.

9.Works with Quality Coordinator to make sure to capture quality data and metrics for current and future improvement of the department deliverables.

10.Works collaboratively with leadership IT hardware support to manage implementation of the instrument tracking system in new service areas as needed.

11.Identifies common equipment problems found in the OR reports these to SPD Manager and assists in creating an immediate solution and defines long term prevention plan.

12.Manages consignment inventory in collaboration with ACM*s SPD Leadership.

13.Provides technical support by ensuring all regular and special-order equipment and instruments are operable and available the day of surgery.

14.Establishes maintains and monitors by having a control system for all surgical instrumentation contained in the sterile storage areas for all instruments being repaired and for purchase dates of instrumentation. Provides management with information to aid in Capitol Budget purchases.

15.Maintains confidentiality of all information related to patients medical staff employees and as appropriate others.

Required:

License/Certification/Education:

Required:

1.High school diploma or GED certification.

2.Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) through HSPA or other certification boards.

3.Instrument tracking implementation from the ground up experience

Preferred:

1.Bachelor*s degree in IT related field

EXPERIENCE:

Required:

1.Minimum of 3 years* experience in the Sterile Processing field.

2.Prior experience with instrument tracking systems implementation maintenance reporting etc.

3.Must demonstrate expert knowledge of instrumentation equipment inventory management and case cart management.

4.Proficient oral and written (English language) communication skills required to fulfill documentation and presenting requirements associated with the position.

5.Computer and Microsoft office proficient.

6.Excellent interpersonal skills.

7.May be required to work after-hours and/or weekends on as needed basis for project implementation or training needs.

Unless certification licensure or registration is required an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Works in patient care environment and sterile processing area with some exposure to infectious disease contaminated equipment supplies and instruments; hazards are minimized when established safety procedures are followed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists in the direction of staff including training work assignment and performance evaluation of up to 10 ftes.
