Overview
The Community Coordinator (CC) is a full-time, live-out, professional staff member of Residence Life. The Community Coordinator (Residence Director I) is responsible for a comprehensive student development program within the family housing communities comprised of approximately 700 apartments housing approximately 1400 residents. The CC is responsible for supervision of an Assistant Coordinator, up to 14 Resident Assistant positions, an Office Manager, and office Receptionists as well as addressing conduct issues and policy enforcement. Responsibilities also include management of the laundry facilities, community spaces, and an area office. The Community Coordinator reports to the Associate Director of Residence Life.

Responsibilities
  • Hire, train, supervise, evaluate and develop one Assistant Coordinator, up to 14 Resident Assistant positions (RA's), one Office Manager, and several desk receptionists.
  • Oversee general management of buildings and quality of community life.
  • Assess resident needs; promote and facilitate opportunities for positive personal growth and community involvement.
  • Inform residents of applicable University and Housing policies; collaborate with the Office of Student Conduct to utilize appropriate administrative procedures, and other campus resources in addressing student conduct.
  • Advise and support RAs in all aspects of diversified programming efforts; support the resident leadership council.
  • Advise and support RHA Family Housing Area Leadership Council.
  • Counsel and refer residents as appropriate with personal, academic, or housing-related concerns.
  • Maintain accurate records and files in area office; provide information and reports as requested.
  • Oversee activity budget and expenditures.
  • Monitor general maintenance of the buildings in conjunction with facilities and custodial teams; report building maintenance and security concerns.
  • Share system-wide on-call responsibilities on a rotating basis with other Residence Life professional staff members.
  • Collaborate with Student Affairs and other University departments, facilities and staff on special projects or committee work as assigned.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree is required.
  • At least three years (6 semesters) of recent (within the past 5 years) staff experience in a comprehensive Residence Life/ Housing operation, or equivalent, is required.
  • Demonstrated competence in all facets of family community management and organization; staff supervision and training; student conduct and conflict resolution; programming and community development; and administrative leadership.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills are essential.
  • Understanding of issues and concerns characteristic of traditional and non-traditional students and their families.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service, as well as marketing and retention strategies; must value a high degree of resident contact.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • A Master's degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Counseling or related field is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with family housing communities is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with the unique needs of international students and their families.
  • Strong professional commitment to fields of university housing and higher education.
