Position Description

As a Storyteller, you will assist in the planning and creation of stories that convey information about Texas Tech people and/or programs. These stories aim to establish and maintain favorable public and stakeholder perceptions of the university's accomplishments and/or agenda, adhering to brand standards and effectively engaging target audiences.

Major/Essential Functions

Every day, you will:
* Support the WCOE and its initiatives by producing high-quality stories and other forms of written communication for external and/or internal distribution.
* Support team members by editing their stories and other written communications for external and/or internal distribution.
* Develop and maintain strong relationships with individuals in designated coverage areas to consistently generate story ideas and pitches.

To be successful in this role, you must demonstrate:
* Excellent writing, editing, interviewing, and communication skills.
* Strong interpersonal skills for working with faculty, staff and students in a wide range of disciplines.
* Organization and the ability to plan ahead and work in a fast-paced environment.
* Ability to work within a high-functioning team.
* Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
* Attention to detail.
* An understanding of and adherence to deadlines.
* Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
* Ability to accept, react to and implement constructive critique from supervisors, peers and other stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and at least two years of experience in communications.

Preferred Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in Journalism, Public Relations or a related area with strong experience in news or feature/promotional writing and interviewing is preferred, as is advanced knowledge of Associated Press writing style.
