Department Information

Within this setting, the Department of Civil Engineering and Construction offers BS degrees in Civil Engineering (BSCE), Construction Engineering (BSConE), and Construction (BSCons). The BSCE and BSConE programs are accredited by Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) and the BSCons program is accredited by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE). The department also offers an MS in Civil Engineering and a PhD in Engineering. Delivery of the curriculum for each program emphasizes hands-on and experiential learning where students develop practical skills valued by employers. State-of-the-art equipment/instrumentation and advanced software are employed in both classroom and laboratory/field settings to prepare students to be productive technical professionals when they graduate.

Located in a region experiencing significant growth, particularly with the $5 billion investment by Hyundai Motor Group's Meta Plant, the department enjoys strong relationships with local industries. These partnerships enhance the faculty research and the educational experience of our students through sponsored senior capstone projects while also providing faculty with valuable opportunities for industry collaboration.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Civil Engineering and Construction, the available Assistant/Associate Professor position require expertise in teaching civil and/or construction engineering and management courses, conducting research in the candidate's area of specialization, and contributing to the service mission of the department.

The successful candidate will be expected to 1) develop and teach a wide range of construction, civil engineering, and construction engineering courses including but not limited to Construction Finance, Green Construction, Construction Project Planning and Scheduling; 2) engage in academic mentoring for graduate and undergraduate students; 3) establish and sustain an externally funded research program complementing current research efforts of the CEC department; 4) pursue scholarly activities, including conducting research, securing grants, and publishing in reputable journals; 5) contribute to program assessment and implement continuous improvement strategies; serve on departmental, college, and university committees and engage in professional service activities; 6) actively participate in professional organizations relevant to their field of expertise; and 7) communicate well, collaborate effectively, and contribute to the mission of the department.

Additionally, the successful candidates will be expected to establish strong research programs in their specialized fields, including actively seeking external funding to support their research endeavors.

We encourage applicants from all areas of interest, including but not limited to digital construction and emerging technologies (including intelligent buildings and digital twin), green and sustainable infrastructure, smart and resilient cities, structural analysis and design, artificial intelligence and its applications in civil and construction engineering & management, and construction/civil engineering education.

This position is an academic (10 months), tenure-track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications
  • Earned terminal degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or Construction Management, by July 1, 2025
  • Demonstrated proficiency in both oral and written communication.
  • Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
  • Commitment to engaging with best-practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research/creative activities as appropriate to the discipline.
  • To be considered for the rank of associate professor, candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of full-time college/university teaching experience at the assistant professor level is required for the rank of associate professor, along with a strong record of research and service with publications and presentations in professional venues.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching experience at a higher education institution
  • Instructional expertise that complements existing faculty in the department
  • Research agenda that complements existing research efforts in the department and college
  • A record of publication in leading technical journals
  • Ability to collaborate in multi-disciplinary research
  • A professional engineering license or the ability to become licensed
  • Professional experience (e.g., academic, postdoctoral, industry) in a related field


Proposed Salary

Commensurate with experience.
This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
