Job Summary:



The CU College of Nursing is seeking a full-time faculty member and energetic leader to serve as the Division Chair of Maternal and Child Health (MCH), an Administrative Faculty Appointment. The ideal candidate would be qualified to hold a faculty appointment in the Instructional Faculty Series or Tenure Eligible Faculty Appointment (open rank: Associate Teaching Professor, Teaching Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor) with dedicated time to serve as the Division Chair of Maternal and Child Health.

The Division Chair has administrative responsibilities for a faculty unit within the CU College of Nursing, specifically ensuring that faculty members are productive in research/scholarship, effective teachers, engaged in clinical practice, and in service functions appropriate for their position and rank. The primary function of the Division Chair is to provide guidance, mentoring and support of faculty in the development and conduct of their research/scholarship, teaching, clinical practice, and service activities. The Division Chair serves as a role model in these areas and shows exemplary leadership, research or inquiry, scholarship, administrative abilities, and clinical practice as appropriate. The Division Chair is a part-time administrative role within a full-time faculty commitment. Division Chairs report to the Senior Associate Dean for Faculty and Students in the College of Nursing.

The Division Chair must strive to sustain a productive, collegial, and collaborative scholarly environment that continuously enhances the quality of research and scholarship, education, clinical practice, and service by the division's faculty as appropriate. The Division Chair is also expected to be an advocate for the faculty, staff, students, college and university, and the nursing profession. A successful candidate will help foster a community of belonging and will utilize a justice lens to effectively engage with all members of the CU Nursing community, specifically faculty, staff, students, and community partners with diverse identities. Faculty rank will depend on the candidate's qualifications and experience.

Successful candidates will have a track record of excellence in academic teaching. Responsibilities may include participation in the teaching, practice, and service mission of the College of Nursing and the University of Colorado. Demonstration of academic leadership such as curricular/program development is preferred. For APRN candidates, a portion of the position may be devoted to clinical practice depending on the candidate's experience and expertise. While the primary focus for this position resides in the teaching mission of the College, service and scholarship to the University and the College are an expectation of all faculty members.

This position may involve didactic and teaching responsibilities. Didactic courses are taught in the classroom, online, or in blended formats. Supervision of clinical courses includes clinical conferences using online conferencing, site visits, and close communication with clinical preceptors.

Examples of Work Performed may include:



  • Division Chair Administrative Faculty Appointment

    • Directly supervise division faculty
    • Complete annual merit performance evaluations using faculty criteria and university standards and after discussion and concurrence by the Sr. Associate Dean for Faculty and Students and the Dean when appropriate.
    • Support faculty going through promotion and tenure processes.
    • Work with the CU Nursing Admissions and Student Affairs Team to review and address student grievances.
    • Develop faculty to support their continual progress in their career, and work to ensure that senior faculty mentor other faculty within the division and the college.
    • Serve as a mentor for faculty members and foster continuing implementation of an effective mentoring program within the division to enable the success of each faculty member.
    • Collaborate with individual faculty and the Associate Dean for Academic Programs to allocate faculty time to teaching requirements to meet curricular needs.
    • Manage faculty workload to maximize divisional resources and to ensure productivity and progress toward advancement and expansion of faculty.
    • Provide leadership and support for college efforts related to faculty diversity; Integrate elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into operations of the Maternal-Child Health Division.
    • Manage the division to meet research/scholarship, education, practice, and service missions.
    • Model shared governance, collaborate with college governance bodies, administrative leaders, and divisional faculty in strategic planning efforts.
    • Collaborate with the faculty to assure diversity in meeting Colorado Board of Nursing and national accreditation standards in its expectations for faculty.
    • Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Clinical and Community Affairs to build and maintain effective faculty practice in areas of division specialties and to assist as requested with the development of innovative clinical enterprises that support the faculty and the college's mission.
    • Manage communication about the division's activities and successes.


  • Instructional Faculty

    • Maintains competency and enhances professional growth and development through continuing education, conferences, and seminars. Maintains/updates mandatory education.
    • Provide education through learner centered instruction that will enable graduates to fulfill the evolving needs of patients and meet workforce demands of the marketplace.
    • Encourage a culture of belonging, grounding learning in mutual responsibility and respect, life-long learning, diversity and ethics, as well as personal and professional development
    • Encourage a culture of learning that values mutual responsibility and respect, life-long learning, diversity and ethics as well as personal and professional development.
    • Participate in activities that promote the stature of the academic programs and the College of Nursing as well as abide by the mandates set by the University of Colorado, and the College of Nursing.
    • Participate in course, curricular and program revisions / development as assigned.
    • Introduce students to skills needed to succeed in a progressive teaching and learning environment that incorporates ongoing innovative strategies for competency development.
    • Evaluate student application of knowledge.
    • Demonstrate basic skills in operating the educational technology tools.
    • Promote accountability among students by implementing clear guidelines and expectations for preparation, engagement, and self-directed study/practice.
    • Serve on divisional, college, and university committees;
    • Demonstrate a commitment to collaborative inter-professional teaching and scholarship.

Work Location:



Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 2-3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Associate Teaching Professor: $110,000 to $130,000 annually at 1.0 FTE

Teaching Professor: $125,000 to $155,000 annually at 1.0 FTE

Associate Professor (Tenure Eligible): $115,000 to $135,000 annually at 1.0 FTE

Professor (Tenure Eligible): $130,000 to $160,000 annually at 1.0 FTE

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.

  • A record of demonstrated effectiveness in teaching, collegial collaboration, and commitment to a program of scholarship to qualify for the rank of Associate Teaching Professor in the Instructional Series: Teaching Professor Track

    • Minimum qualifications for appointment at the rank of Associate Teaching Professor include recognition as an expert teacher and sustained commitment to a program of scholarship


  • Eligible to obtain an unencumbered nursing license in Colorado.


Teaching Professor:



  • A master's degree in nursing from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • A Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or an earned doctorate in an appropriate field of science, nursing, social science, education, or related area.
  • A record of demonstrated effectiveness in teaching, collegial collaboration, and commitment to a program of scholarship to qualify for the rank of Teaching Professor in the Instructional Series: Teaching Professor Track

  • A master's degree in nursing from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • A Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or an earned doctorate in an appropriate field of science, nursing, social science, education, or related area;
  • A record of scholarship and experience to qualify for the rank of Associate Professor (Tenure Eligible):

    • Minimum qualifications for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor include an extensive and continuing body of research published in peer-reviewed scholarly journals.


  • Eligible to obtain an unencumbered nursing license in Colorado.


Professor (Tenure Eligible):



  • A master's degree in nursing from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • A Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or an earned doctorate in an appropriate field of science, nursing, social science, education, or related area;
  • Eligible to obtain an unencumbered nursing license in Colorado.
  • A record of scholarship and experience to qualify for the rank of Professor (Tenure Eligible):

    • Minimum qualifications for appointment at the rank of Professor include a proven track record of extramural funding, substantial scholarship in peer reviewed journals, national recognition for program of research, and leadership in professional organizations.




Preferred Qualifications:



  • Collaborative record of teaching and scholarship.
  • Evidence of scholarship in Maternal and Child Health.
