Hiring Range

The University of California, Merced is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is $53,500- $92,100. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $54,000- $62,000.

About the Job

The regional coordinator at UC Merced's Center for Educational Partnerships (CEP) is an experienced professional in K-14 academic preparation. They work closely with the Program Director of Veteran's Upward Bound and the Director of K14 Federal Programs to oversee the coordination of efforts at community-based organizations and higher education partnerships. The goal is to propose and implement a wide range of academic preparation programs in collaboration with other higher education institutions and local organizations. As the K-14 Academic Prep Spec 3, they will recommend, develop, and oversee the implementation of services that are centered around Veteran students and their families. The coordinator is responsible for maintaining program visibility and collaborative relationships with higher education institutions, community entities, and other non-UC academic preparation programs. Additionally, they manage the program's curricular implementation and accountability framework and submit quarterly, mid-year, and annual performance reports to corresponding stakeholders and funders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under the direction of a Supervisor: Recruits and enrolls Veteran students for program participation. Provides academic development and support through program services tied to program outcomes/objectives. Strives to meet or exceed minimum program outcomes/objectives.
  • Prepares summaries of each month's activities detailing results and an assessment of monthly efforts; Ensures that daily workshop, campus visit logs, surveys, evaluations, grades, and other data instruments are entered on time. Prepares reports and updates at the immediate supervisor's request.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of college-going services and activities; organizes campus visits for Veteran students, families, and educators; organizes workshops for Veteran students, parents, families, and educators; assists in the planning and implementation of academic preparation and family activities and conferences; delivers admissions, personal statement, financial aid, transfer planning, CTE exposure, test taking and other workshops as assigned; assists in the organization and implementation of personal and academic enrichment programs for Veteran students and their families; assists in the development and production of program publications.
  • Maintains relationships with higher education institutions and community entities. Develops and maintains professional relations with educators to identify educationally disadvantaged students to receive academic preparation; acts as principal liaison to Community-Based Organizations partner(s) Institutions of Higher Education, including academic counselors and other key school personnel; develops and maintains relationships with other UC/CSU/CCC programs including Veteran services, etc., as well as community-based organizations, civic groups, and private industry; acts as a resource for personnel and the public for inquiries regarding admissions, financial aid, housing, campus tours, and other related areas.
  • Coordinates academies that provide in-depth educational support and resources to Veteran students, which may include Saturday work as well as transportation of Veteran students. Maintains accurate records and documentation of program activities and participant data. Monitors program budget and allocates resources efficiently. Stay current with education trends and best practices to improve program offerings.
Qualifications

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in related area from an accredited institution. (Required)
  • Advanced degree in a related area from an accredited institution. (Preferred)
  • 3 years of progressively responsible related experience and/or combination of experience and training. (A masters degree in related area may be substituted for 2 years of required experience.) (Required)

CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Must maintain valid CA DL, a clean DMV record and enrollment in DMV Pull-Notice Program.
  • Knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population, and sensitivity to culture, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status.
  • Knowledge and understanding of K-14 education, transfer planning and Veteran related matters i.e. GI Bill.
  • Knowledge of higher education institutions (UC, CSU, CC, etc.), admissions and financial aid requirements, and the ability to interpret policies and procedures to youth, parents, and school representatives.
  • Experience advising and supporting educationally disadvantaged and academically at-risk students regarding postsecondary opportunities and careers.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with school district administrators, school counselors, principals, teachers, and community contacts.
  • Thorough knowledge of high school graduation and college entrance requirements.
  • Spanish speaking preferred. (Preferred)
